Chesil Beach

  • It is a pebble beach 18 miles long and stretches north-west from Portland to West Bay.
  • For much of its length it is separated from the mainland by an area of saline water called the Fleet Lagoon.
  • Go for a late afternoon stroll along Chesil Beach or partake in a spot of fishing while looking out to sea.

Fleet Lagoon

  • The Fleet Lagoon is a shallow area of saline water between Chesil Beach and the mainland. It is 13 km long.
  • The Fleet is an important area for wildlife and is a Special Area of Conservation with over 150 species of seaweed, 25 species of fish and 60 species of mollusc!
