  • Top 7 white sand beaches in Cornwall

    30 / November / 2022

If there’s one thing Cornwall knows how to do well (apart from pasties, of course) it’s beaches. And while the region boasts coastlines of all flavours – from pebble and shingle to fluffy, golden sand, some of them are said to rival those of the Caribbean!

Check out our favourite white sand beaches in Cornwall – the ones that will make you feel like you’re on distant shores without having to endure the jet lag!

    Porthtowan Beach

Porthtowan Beach bears a blue flag and is located in an Area of Outstanding Natural beauty. As if you needed any more reason to visit, it’s also a great surfing spot so the perfect place to bring your board or simply watch other surfers from a safe distance.

It has the convenience of its own large car park, and there are some cafes, shops and toilets available for visitors.

    Carbis Bay

Located close to the ever-popular seaside resort of St Ives, this white sand beach in Cornwall overlooks the glistening turquoise sea beyond it and is a popular family destination due to its calm waters.

Sheltered and tranquil, Carbis Bay is surrounded by sub-tropical plants and is within easy reach of all the attractions on offer at St Ives.

    East Looe Beach, Looe

Located in the charming seaside town of Looe, is East Looe beach. While the sand blanketing it isn’t quite white it certainly deserves a mention for its unpretentious beauty.

A clean sheltered bay, it houses plenty of rock pools which will interest the littluns, and after a day spent here, you can explore Looe itself, a charmingly traditional seaside town filled with ice cream shops and cakes.

This gem is a quick 8-minute drive from our Tregoad Holiday Park, and a very popular day trip with our guests.

    Porthcurno Beach

This white sand beach in Cornwall stretches out as far as the eye can see. It’s constantly popping up on lists of the region’s top beaches, and it really is no wonder why. High cliffs backing it shelters beachgoers, many of whom are families thanks to its safe swimming opportunities and lifeguards on duty in the summer. On top of having won several awards, it was chosen as the set location for Nampara Cove in the Poldark series.

    Pedn Vounder Beach

One of Cornwall’s most popular white sand beaches, Pedn Vounder is located on the region’s western tip. Neighbouring it is Porthcurno beach, which you can walk over to on a spring low tide. You’ll need to do so to find the nearest cafe and toilets. Just be sure to leave enough time to be able to get back again!

    Porthminister

Nestled within verdant scenery, this Blue Flag beach offers spectacular views from all angles. It’s an ideal family day out, with lifeguards on duty throughout the summer. There is also disabled access to the beach.

If you enjoy watersports, there are plenty of activities on offer like paddleboarding, surfing and kayaking. The beach is also home to a mini golf course for those who fancy teeing off.

    Pentewan Beach

This beach is located on the southern coast of Cornwall and is blessed with swathes of golden sand which stretch out over more than half a mile. Being slightly lesser known than others on this list, it’s less busy during peak times and it’s a perfect place to enjoy a bit of open water swimming thanks to two headlands providing safe swimming conditions for paddlers of all ages. You can also take to the water with a paddleboard or kayak here.
