Sustainable Stays: Eco-Friendly Travel Tips For Your Next Holiday
07 / May / 2025
At Waterside, we’re passionate about protecting the natural beauty of the world around us, especially our beloved holiday destinations, Dorset and Cornwall with sweeping coastlines and rolling countryside. That’s why we’re committed to sustainability, and we know many of our guests are too.
If you’re looking to enjoy a relaxing break and reduce your environmental impact, here are some easy eco-friendly travel tips to help make your holiday greener, without compromising on comfort or fun.
Choose a UK Staycation
By choosing a holiday closer to home, you’re already reducing your carbon footprint. Air travel is one of the largest contributors to greenhouse gas emissions, so a coastal getaway in Dorset or Cornwall is a great first step towards more sustainable travel. Plus, with so much natural beauty and adventure on your doorstep, who needs to fly?
Pack Light & Smart
Whether you’re travelling by car or train, pack mindfully by bringing everything you might need, and consider reusable items like:
- A refillable water bottle
- A tote bag for shopping
- Reusable cutlery or metal straws for picnics
- Reef-safe sun cream if you’re thinking of going in the sea
Support Local & Seasonal
All our parks are located near brilliant local businesses. Whether you’re picking up Cornish pasties, sipping local ales, or browsing handmade crafts, nearby producers reduce food miles and help the local economy thrive.
Better still, many of our on-park restaurants and food outlets, such as The Country Club at Osmington Mills or Southside Bar & Grill at Bowleaze Cove, source fresh, locally sourced ingredients.
Leave the Car Behind (When You Can)
Once you’ve arrived at the park, consider exploring the area on foot, by bike, or using public transport. Dorset and Cornwall are packed with scenic walking and cycling trails. You’ll find many attractions just a short stroll or ride from our parks.
Top tip: Don’t forget your reusable coffee cup for those beachside pit stops!
Respect Local Wildlife and Nature
Stay on marked paths during countryside walks, avoid disturbing animals, and dispose of litter responsibly – or better yet, take it back to your accommodation. Simple actions like this help protect the landscapes we all love to enjoy.
At Waterside, our parks are designed to blend into their natural surroundings. So, you might even spot some wildlife from your accommodation!
Choose Sustainable Accommodation
We’re making changes across our parks to become more eco-conscious, from introducing EV chargers to ensuring recycling facilities are available.
At Tregoad Holiday Park in Cornwall, sustainability is woven into the fabric of the park. We’ve introduced on-park beehives to support pollinator populations and promote biodiversity, and we work to enhance the surrounding natural habitats. You’ll also find wildflower planting, energy-efficient infrastructure, and ongoing projects focused on reducing waste and protecting the environment.
We’re constantly looking for ways to do better and we love when guests join us on that journey.
Be Water & Energy Wise
Little things make a big difference. Turn off lights and appliances when not in use and reuse towels if possible. It’s the same principle as being eco-aware at home, just with a sea view.
Let’s make Holidays Greener, Together
At Waterside, we believe sustainability should enhance your stay – not limit it. From choosing local, planet-friendly experiences to being mindful of energy use, your actions help protect these beautiful places for generations to come.
We’re proud to offer holidays that are good for the soul and a little kinder to the planet.
